By TEINO EVANS, Staff ReporterTHE JAMAICAN WOMEN really know how to show off their power to drive men crazy, as they danced up a storm inside the Mas Camp Village on Oxford Road, New Kingston last Friday.
The event, which was sponsored by Appleton Jamaica Rum, saw patrons turning out in their usual numbers, skimpily clad for the occasion. Women turned up in short shorts, miniskirts and tights, while the guys dressed in their usual jeans and T-shirts. Some patrons, however, came attired in carnival wear, which added to the carnival fever that was already in the air.
The night's proceedings featured music from Sparkles Disco, but wait, that was not the half of it, as patrons were in for a special treat. Making a grand appearance onstage were Caribbean Soca giants 'Krosfyah'.
The group, which hails out of Barbados, gave an exciting, energy-filled performance, doing a number of popular soca tunes like, J'Ouvert Morning and The Road Is Mine. The group also did their own brief version of Bob Marley's Exodus.
Krosfyah, definitely had patrons in frenzy for the duration of their set as they were very interactive with the crowd.
At one point in the band's performance, one of their lead singers shouted, "Is it true dat Jamaica have di sexiest set of girls?" And the women in the crowd had no qualms about responding with a resounding "YES!" However, members of the Krosfyah band were not convinced (or so they said), and requested that all the sexy Jamaican girls go to the front and show off their assets.
"Now let me see you (the women) shake your bam bam to the left, now to the right--laaad!" The Jamaican women definitely lived up to their reputation of being shapely beings who are capable of moving their 'bam bams'.
At the end of the band's set, patrons were then thrown back into the party mode as selectors played some more soca party favourites like Kevin Lyttle's Tempted To Touch, which had patrons teaming up with their partners and 'getting on wild'.
Usually, these events have a cut off point, at 2 a.m., but there was something about the vibes inside the Mas Camp last Friday that caused patrons to want to stay all night. At some minutes after 2 in the morning when the event was slated to end, patrons were still standing around, and others bubbling to the music, as if they had no intentions of leaving.
It was crazy fun and excitement, and according to Tracy Ann Menzies, public relations officer for the Bacchanal Jamaica group, as of last Friday, "We will be having a band inside the Mas Camp Village," giving patrons the ultimate fun and excitement of carnival.
