THE CORPORATE AREA Resident Magistrate's court is chock-full with cases of Britons being sentenced to two, three and sometimes four years imprisonment for swallowing pellets of cocaine, and we wonder if there is any truth to it when they claim their families were threatened if they did not comply with the drug lord's demands.
Cry 'wolf'
Yet, today's lead story points to a very serious and devastating truth. Though there are the 'ginnals' and the liars who cry "wolf" every time they are caught, the sad reality is that when Britons are really kidnapped, threatened and ordered to swallow pellets of cocaine, it will forever put a blot on our country's name.
While it may be a boost to the drug trade that is growing by leaps and bounds, it will devastate Jamaica's tourist industry even further. Potential British tourists will reconsider a few days of relaxation with the promise of sun, sea and sand because of the fear of being kidnapped, threatened and turned into drug mules. On the flip side, decent Jamaican citizens will forever bear the load of humiliation when we try to enter their airports.
