By KANDRÉ MCDONALD, Freelance ReporterTHE SAYING "TOO much rat caan dig a good hole", held firm last Friday night at 'Raw NRG - The Flow Continues', which was staged at The Barn, University of Technology, 237 Old Hope Road, Kingston.
Travellers, Kool Face, Razz & Biggy, Danger Zone, Vendetta, Epidemik, DJ Liquid from Zip FM, and a few other selectors all turned out to rock the party. However, it came very close to selectors 'rocking' each other's teeth instead.
The party was in full swing and the bass pounding from the speakers was vibrant and created the right party mood. The tempo on the inside was enough to inform anyone on the outside that the party was hype.
This temperament however, changed somewhat when the security team advised the selectors that the party would have to end soon. The Epidemik selectors, who were busy rotating songs from their computer-operated sound system, seemingly agreed with the security team and made this known to the patrons who openly voiced their disapproval.
The party was soon in full swing again with Lady Saw and Spragga Benz's collaboration Backshot thumping from the speakers. A female patron, whose rear end was interacting with the night sky, seemed to have caught the attention of a large portion of the male dominated crowd as she gyrated on the wet grass.
Her moment of fame came to an abrupt end when the security team once again approached the selectors and reminded them that the party should come to an end. This caused an uproar in the small section used for the stage area as Danger Zone, who was scheduled to play was not being given the opportunity.
A member of the Danger Zone crew, who complained about leaving Montego Bay to come and select at the party, took up a microphone and set out to dismiss the Epidemik crew, who were playing for quite a while.
The Danger Zone crew, who had grown weary of waiting, began accusing the Epidemik selectors of having no turntable talent. A member of the crew went as far as saying that all Epidemik does is stroll around to parties with a programmed computer system.
The argument got somewhat comical as members of both sides began to compare equipment prices. However, the police turned up in good time as the argument escalated to the point where members of both parties began exchanging expletives and threats. The officers then advised the promoting team to end the show.
The hype party came to a premature end at 3:25 a.m. as patrons slowly strolled from the venue, while others stood in disbelief at the nature of the party ending. What initially looked like a really good quality party ended with violent threats because of the number of selectors wanting to play and also the duration of their sets.
