Big disgrace

The Editor, Madam:

It is an absolute disgrace that a hotel in Negril (Tigress 11) had to undergo substantially more damage than would have been the case had a fire emergency facility been available in the town.

Having to rely on a fire truck from Lucea and wait three and a half hours for it to arrive is absurd. It is amazing that in this popular tourism mecca a fire emergency facility is apparently non-existent. The fact that such a facility does not exist in the town, the fact that trucks in Savanna-la-mar were not in working order and the fact that trucks from Lucea had to be relied on in this emergency speaks to a lack of proper leadership on the part of the authorities in the town/parish.

MP Wykeham McNeil and the Westmoreland Parish Council must be chided for not ensuring that a proper fire emergency facility was established in Negril. MP McNeil who is also State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism ought to be even more sensitive to this issue. Disgraceful!

I am etc,
