DESPITE THE OBVIOUS sexual innuendoes and messages in her song above and other songs, CeCile Charlton (CeCile) says contrary to what many people may think, she is not a sexaholic.
"Sex is not that much of a big deal to me," CeCile said in explaining that there is more to life than just having sex."
I get bored easily," so to avoid moving from one person to the next, CeCile says there are other aspects of herself and a partner that she seeks to enjoy. According to Cecile; "women should get in touch with their bodies instead of just (expletive deleted) down the place...a man should be able to be with you and enjoy your company without always wanting sex," she says.
CeCile is not afraid to use her songs to advocate certain sexual practices.
For example in her song 'Do It To Me', CeCile sends a strong message for men to please their women with certain sexual acts, like oral sex, regardless of what others may say. CeCile, who admits to having performed the act already, says she likes when it is done to her. "I've done it twice before, but I like when it's done to me," she said.
Even though she has an open mind about sexual practices that are otherwise condemned in the dancehall, CeCile says she is not the type to go out with 'every Tom, Dick and Harry'.
She says that she had been in a serious relationship sometime ago but now she is single and enjoys spending time getting to know herself.
"After my last relationship, I didn't have sex for about nine months," she said. During that time she says she spent time by herself, going to the movies on her own and enjoying her own company.
Bruk pocket man
Outside of her private life, CeCile says she isn't exactly the party type, but when she does go out, there are certain preferences that she has. "I have people that I go to clubs with, but they have to drag me along sometimes, because I don't really party that much," she says.
CeCile says she also prefers to go out in places like the Bahamas and other foreign destinations, because when she is in Jamaica, people tend to watch her too much and at times they are judgemental (because of the songs she sings). It is for this reason, that Cecile says; "if I see a guy that I like, I prefer to be in a surrounding where they don't know who I am, because they may be out to prove something.
"Time and time again, CeCile says that guys approach her on the road or in the club and try to make passes at her, using some of the messages in her songs as guidelines.
"Generally, guys ask me if mi stop tek application; if mi really nuh want nuh bruk pocket man and if they do it to me, if I'll do it back to them."CeCile, however, says she can deal with this, but still prefers not to be in the limelight when she goes out.Her lighter side.
CeCile, a Manchester girl who attended the Bishop Gibson High school, describes herself as a simple woman who is very independent and self-assured. "I love to have fun and be free-spirited," she says, but not over the edge. "I'm always aware of the people and things around me," she says. Even though she is a dancehall artiste, who is surviving in a tough business that has been dominated by males, CeCile has a very light side to her character. It's not only about talking tough and sending strong messages in her songs, but there is indeed a whole different side to her.
There are certain things that she cares about, like her younger siblings, who she describes as her 'pride and joy' and her home town, Mandeville, where she says it is cool and calm and it allows her to feel closely connected to her roots and spiritual side.
She also says that she cares for her body, which according to her is; "the best thing in the world" to her. "I keep my body up to di time...I try to eat right, get regular check-ups and I also work out three times a week."CeCile also has a few dreams of her own that have nothing to do with her musical career. She wants to find that special someone and get settled. Children, she says, are not an option until after marriage.
"I want to be married when I have children, because I believe in a wholesome family life." Even though her parents were not married, Cecile believes that parents should be role models to their children.
The singer also wants to achieve a few things before she dies. She wants to learn how to swim and most importantly to have a guilt-free conscience.
"Apart from all the material and tangible things, I would want to achieve happiness with myself. This can take a lifetime to achieve, but I don't want to take a lifetime to achieve this because I want time to enjoy it," she says.
