Gun to God - Papa San's worst and best moments

Papa San - File

SAN BEST AND WORST MOMENTS

There are very few persons who get the opportunity to live what seems like two lives in one lifetime.

Papa San did something like that, living as Papa San the dancehall deejay and non-Christian, and Papa San the gospel artiste and Christian.

It is therefore not surprising, that Papa San has not been able to erase from his mind his worst and best moments.

WORST

The worst moment in Papa San's life, came at a point when he was well on his way to making it to the top of his dancehall career. According to San, he was held with an illegal firearm by the police in 1993 and thrown in jail.

The deejay says that this situation only brought shame and embarrassment to him, as being a dancehall artiste and being in the public eye, it wasn't healthy for his career to be slapped with charges of possession of illegal firearm. Also, at the time when he was held with the gun, he was in the company of another woman (not his wife).

Papa San says he never knew how to face his wife at that point, as everything had now come out in the open. "I disappointed my wife and I felt a way when she came to look for me," he said. Papa San spent a week in jail for his troubles, before being granted bail.

This was one in a series of incidents in Papa San's life that would mark the ending of his old life, and the start of a new one.

BEST

San remembers his most memorable moment, to be the time when he and his wife got saved and became Christians. "It was the time when I received Jesus as my Lord and personal saviour," that San says, will forever stand out in his mind.

According to Papa San, while he and his wife prayed with the Reverend Winston Smith of the Haven Hill Baptist church, he felt a different feeling with his spirit, and from that point on, he knew that he was making the right decision.

"My life was miraculously transformed," he said. He says that from that day (in 1997) onwards, things were never the same for him.
