Dear Pastor,
I cannot call my situation a problem because I have been following your column for quite a while and I have really seen people with problems that I think were created due to the fact that much thought was not put into what they were about to do and the consequences that would have resulted from their behaviour.
I am a 50-year-old divorced Jamaican who has been using the Internet to locate a mate and I can truly say that I have come across quite a few cons. I am also beginning to wonder if it is possible to really find someone on-line.
I have approached it with an open mind because one can develop a great friendship, if nothing else. Being without the company of the opposite sex sometimes can cause desperation. I have to say thank God I still have my head together.

Dear J.,
You have not said whether you are a male or female, but the letter affords me the opportunity to warn people how they go about seeking mates on the Internet.
You have discovered that lots of people are con-artists. I am not saying that some people have not been successful in their search, but one ought to be very careful. I wish you well. You are evidently a very lonely person. I trust someone will come your way very soon and make you happy.
Pastor.
