OLD HARBOUR HIGH school totally out played their opponents as they turned back Quality Academics 47-20 in the latest match of the TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz on Thursday.

It was a match that turned out to be a one-sided encounter despite a good start by both teams. This, as Quality Academics showed promise in the first few minutes.

Quality Academics started off brightly in the first section getting two points from their first five questions with Old Harbour High acquiring the same number of points from the same number of questions.

However, as the round progressed, Old Harbour showed they were the better team and came out of the closely contested section 10-9 in their favour initially.

During the break, Old Harbour were awarded a point for the question "How many moons does jupiter have?". They had answered 16. However, the judges had ruled the answers incorrect saying it was 12.

On the other hand, Quality Academics lost a point after the judges ruled that an answer given by Quality Academics to the question "What does the phrase up in the air mean?". Quality Academics had answered 'out of one's hands' and then added 'an unresolved matter'. However, the judges subtracted a point for the first answer.

As a result, the final score for the first section read 11-8 in favour of Old Harbour.

In the second section, Old Harbour went far ahead of their opponents rattling up 24 points out of 34 questions. On the other hand, Quality Academics could only secure 12 points out of 31 questions. Consequently, the second section ended 35-20 with the advantage going to Old Harbour.

The third section saw Old Harbour inching away further as they went into a 41-18 lead. However, Quality Academics who tried to rally were often set back by incorrect answers as the match went 47-20 to Old Harbour.

However, that aside there were some 'off the wall' answers. In one instance, Quality Academics was asked "In which country is the famous Golden Gate Bridge located?" to which they answered 'London'. Old harbour had their turn too. They were asked "What is a fertilised egg called?" Their response was ovary which was incorrect.

In all of this, both captains had different views on their teams' performance.

"Our victory comes down to teamwork. You can't underestimate anybody so we could have done better in certain areas. As always there is room for improvement," said Julio Maragh of Old Harbour High.

However, Quality Academics' captain, Duran Wright put their loss down to lack of experience.

"It went fairly well for us. However, we were nervous. Three of the players had no prior experience in Schools Challenge Quiz. I was the only experienced player," he said.

In the next match, Immaculate High will oppose Lewisville High school.
