READING THE STORY of Broderick Grant shows just how callous we have become as a society.
Firstly, it takes a very cold hearted person to throw acid on another human being. However, it speaks volumes in explaining the level of crime that we have.
Years ago, a dispute between two persons was strictly between the belligerents and was often settled amicably. However, these days a dispute between two persons may result in the death of the families of those involved as well as members of the community.
No longer are people willing to settle their differences between themselves and in a friendly fashion. Instead, the quest for revenge and blood has spawned a society where words such as care and sympathy are no longer a part of our vocabulary.
We as a society have departed so far from caring about each other that looking someone in the eyes for too long may result in our death. No longer is it safe to rely on the goodwill of strangers when one is in a bad situation as that unfamiliar person may be waiting in the wings to prey on our misfortune.
We may be quick to blame each other for our descent into this quagmire. But at the end of the day the loss of love for our fellow countryman begun with each of us as individuals. It did not go with our parents, the politicians or our neighbours.
Hence, until each individual can once again recapture the love we had for each other then we will continue to be a cold, heartless society where one man can easily kill a member of our family if he has a dispute with us.
