By ANTHONY FOSTER, Staff Reporter"THE GIRLS WORKED hard, but Police gave us a good fight," declared Jetsetters A coach C. Lloyd Walker after his team's 25-21 win over Police A in their JNBS-sponsored Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Open League play-off at the Leila Robinson Courts yesterday.
With the win, Jetsetters A, who led 14-8 at the half along with Omega A, who later defeated Speg A 21-15 have advanced to the quarter-finals, which is set for January 17.
Police A were outplayed by a fitter, stronger and better Jetsetters A team, which made little or no mistakes for the entire match. However, according to coach Walker, the usual Jetsetters game affected Police.
"In attack, the usual Jetsetters A game is a strong attacking force, we still live the old adage that the best means of defence is to attack."
Assistant coach of Police, Audrey Hill, said they started well but lost their way.
"We allowed Jetsetters to capitalised on our bad passes, which made it hard for us to catch up," she said.
Created problems
Jetsetters goalkeeper Lotoya Barrett and goaldefence Tyesha Bennett created problems for the Police attackers, this was evidenced when goalshooter Niesha Howard and goalattack Marcella Thompson failed to get off a shot early in the game.
On Saturday, Jetsetters A entered their contest against Police A needing to win to force a play-off, this after they had earlier forfeited one of their preliminary round encounters.
In the consolation knockout, New Kingston Raiders stopped Braeton B 20-15, Leila Gardens beat Hamshire B 18-8, Whitehorses defeated Progressive Strikers 15-13, Ebony Strikers C edged Up Park Camp 17-16, Eden Strikers B beat Rollington Town 19-14 and Ebony Strikers B outscored Millennium Strikers 16-14.
