By RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

SPANISH TOWN:

A 35-YEAR-OLD security guard who is accused of shooting a man with his licensed firearm while he was at a dance celebrating the new year, appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's court on Monday on charges on unlawful wounding and gun related charge.

Allegation outlined in court by investigating officer Detective Corporal Sherrie Thomas of the Spanish Town CIB, are that on New Year's Eve, Kenneth McIntosh, an employee of King Alarms, was at a street dance in Kitson Town, St. Catherine.

The court heard that on the stroke of New Year's Day, he reportedly brandished his firearm and fired shots, one of which hit the complainant in his leg.

It was further heard that he then took the injured man to the Spanish Town Hospital. However, investigations by the police resulted in him being arrested and charged with with firing a gun within 40 feet of a public thoroughfare and unlawful wounding. His gun was also seized by the police.

When he appeared in court he pleaded not guilty and his bail was extended until January 27, 2004.
