STING patron dies

Kevan Moscoe - Contributed

KEVAN 'KIDDO' MOSCOE, 24, was anxiously awaiting the chance to be called on-stage on the night of 'Sting'. In his mind, he was just seconds away from stardom.

But stardom, like seeing his daughter graduate from high school, was not going to happen.

Vybz Kartel and Ninja Man got into a brawl and in the ensuing chaos that followed he was stabbed 13 times by persons allegedly known to him and he died in the hospital a week later.

"Is God giving me the strength to survive. His friends tek it hard because him was known and loved by many. Even the guys dem weh do dis to him, him an' dem use to deal," said Yvette Wallock, the mother of the upcoming deejay.

Kiddo was stabbed during the melee at Sting as the crowd scattered for cover. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Miss Wallock told THE STAR that sometime ago, her son was allegedly robbed by the was men after he had gone to Western Union to receive money. She said he was joined by the men who asked him for money. When he was about to comply with their request, he was relieved of the money.

Mistaken identity

"He didn't tell me any of this. But one of the guys died and maybe they thought it was him and killed him," she said.

Miss Wallock, who folded her arms for most of the interview, said she was at home on the morning of December 27 when she heard a knock on the gate. She said at first she ignored the rapping. But when it got continuous she decided to see who it was.

"I was preparing to go to church when I heard the knocking. When I answered I heard that mi son get stab a Sting an' somebody who see him after him get stab ride come tell we. To what me hear him frien' call him an' ask weh him deh an' when him go fi meet him di guys dem stab him up," she told THE STAR.

Though obviously hurt by the loss of her son, she maintained her composure for the duration of the interview.

"Him little bredda did mash up but him doing well now, him a come up back likkle. Him daughta likkle so she nuh know wha deh gwaan. Mi tell her seh daddy dead and she ask if she a go see him again. Mi tell her seh she a go see him a heaven an' from dat she tell everybody seh she go see him deh so she alright," she said.

Kiddo's cousin, who gave her name as 'Munchy' said the artiste was supposed to be called up by Kartel. However, due to the confusion it never happened.

"Him would a bus big 'cause a dat, 'cause him was a upcoming deejay with potential. Him would a be a star," she said.

In all of this, the family said they had received a card from a member of the Supreme Promotions team but were unable to get through to the number. As to whether or not they will be pursuing the matter they are not sure.

A report on the killing from the Greater Portmore police said Moscoe was at the show when a fight broke out on-stage and patrons began throwing bottles. The police say Moscoe was running for cover when he was accosted by a group of men with who he had an ongoing feud.

He was stabbed several times but managed to escape from the men but was chased on to Dyke Road where he was again stabbed several times.

Moscoe was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital but was transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died on Saturday.

Interestingly, the police did not know about the stabbing until they were contacted by the hospital after he died. Subsequent investigations revealed the circumstances surrounding his stabbing.

The funeral Kevan 'Kiddo' Moscoe will take place on January 18.
