Appointment with death?

After the confrontation with Rory, Dino and Jagga Roach sought to cool down the tension by hiding out at a little bar. They thought the worst was over and it was peace and safety for the rest of the night. But Rory and Brown Chris had other intentions ... and they were not good.

STUPIDITY IS ONE the leading causes of death in the city. After the dust-up with Rory, Dino and Jagga Roach, instead of laying low, went to a popular bar off Washington Boulevard to have a drink. It was Dino's favourite bar.

He had a thing for the bar girl, Kerry, a tall, good-looking 'browning' with an unusually large butt for her neat frame. They parked across the road and went in. There was a round-robin being held not far from them so the patronage that night was scanty. They ordered a couple of beers, and planted themselves on a pair of barstools. While Dino flirted with Kerry, Rory and Brown Chris, after dropping off Mikey, were heading over the Causeway bridge. Rory was driving too fast, and quietly fuming. Brown Chris recognised his anger and frustration, and decided to try to capitalise on it.

"Yu see how Mikey look sick and start smoke when him hear 'bout de shooting ah Waterhouse awhile ago. Him a lose him nerve, mi tell yu, him a lose him edge," Brown Chris suggested.

"Shut the blast up! Yu can chat one bag ah bull, eeh?" he said, hissing his teeth.

"All mi a seh is that Mikey too concerned 'bout di little deal dat him get involved in. Dem yute de fi ...

"Yea, mi know. Dem yute de fi ded," he said. "But Mikey nah lose him nerve man." This time he sounded as if he were trying to convince himself.

"Yo, ah fate mek dem walk inna de club tonight. Is like God seh 'son, here is the vengeance that yu seek'," Brown Chris said.

His grandmother was a big fan of the Bible, and she was always slinging scriptures at him. Some of them must have stuck.

"Whey yu tink dem de now?" Rory heard himself ask.

"Dino have a lickle catty 'round a Duhaney Park that him programme more time, and Jagga have some family over Daytona that him jam wid sometime. Dem like fi drink at a bar off de Boulevard pon Saturday night," Brown Chris recited.

"How yu get dem information de?"

"Mi like fi figure out beforehand how me ah go do my ting. Killing a man is serious bizness, yu affi know wha yu a do. We caan kill dem inna Top Jungle, we can only eat dem food outside de area."

"Why dem badda even come back inna town?

"Dino stab a yute inna de country ova a girl -

"It look like him have a jealousy problem," Rory interjected

" ... and affi run weh from de so," Brown Chris continued as though he had never been interrupted.

"Him did a gwaan kotch wid some relatives up a Red Hills Road, but you know how the Red Hills Yute dem stay, dem no like no strange man. After the yute dem send threat to him, him boogie come back a Jungle.

Rory nodded.

"Inna March, Jagga family did a try buy him one a de US$2,000 visa wid work permit dem but the links get bus, so him go rest wid some family inna St. Catherine. But some lickle robbery start inna de place, and a man mussi get shot, so Jagga lef de area quick quick," Brown Chris explained.

"Zeeen," Rory said.

He headed in the direction of Washington Boulevard. If he saw either of them at the bar, they were going to die this Sunday morning. He had once read somewhere that most wars begin on a Sunday. "To hell" is what Mikey wanted to say. They had to die.
