UPCOMING DEEJAY ROY-MAINE Alexander was hoping he would get community service for his crime. However, he was somewhat surprised when he was fined for having a bogus passport in his possession.
Alexander, 27, from Cockburn Pen, St. Andrew, was charged with forgery and uttering forged documents arising from an incident when he was about to board a plane to Miami, in the United States, and the document found.
Alexander's attorney had asked for community service after the accused pleaded guilty to the offence. However, Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle said he intended to remain consistent and imposed a fine.
The accused was fined $20,000 or six months in prison and in addition sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at hard labour suspended for two years.
Alexander was arrested on December 27 when his passport was examined and it was revealed that the photo had been switched.
In his defence, the accused said he wanted to go to Miami to further his career after it had hit a stumbling block in Jamaica. He told the courts that he was denied a U.S. visa and because of this he went another route.
