Better management of vendors needed

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The authorities removed the vendors who were selling on the sidewalk from the street, and I have no objection to this. But why is it only when its coming on to the Christmas period that this is done? Why isn't it a continuous process?

I think most of these persons do not have a choice. Many of these persons only sell during the holiday period and if they had a choice and other opportunities, they would not face up to so much abuse. For example, I have seen their goods being taken away by police and M.P.M. officers.

Many of them have kids to send back to school come next school term. I think proper accommodation needs to be organised to relocate these vendors before these strict measures are implemented. I think that they should be given a fair chance considering that they don't have a permanent job.

I am, etc.,
